The Foundation has five Trustees: Dr Yan Huo, Dr Xue Fang, Mr Philip Michaels, Dr Sam Lowe, and Dr Yu Qiao. The Trustees meet regularly to review the impact of existing grants and to consider potential new grants.



Trustee

Dr Yan Huo

Yan Huo is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Capula Investment Management LLP. Prior to co-founding Capula in 2005, Yan spent most of his professional career at JPMorgan where he worked in its Derivatives Research and Proprietary Positioning business.

Yan is a Trustee of Princeton University, Fudan University and the ÎçҹѰ»¨. He holds a PhD and an MA in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a BS in Physics from Fudan University.

Dr Xue Fang

Xue Fang is a member of the President’s Advisory Council of Princeton University, serves as a director of the Beijing Lead Future Foundation, and is on the Board of Overseers of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

Xue studied Biology at Beijing University before attending the Graduate School of Princeton University to study for a PhD in Neuroscience.

She also holds an MS in Biostatistics from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. She has participated in several medical research projects and has worked as a biostatician in Schering-Plough, a pharmaceutical company in New Jersey.

Philip Michaels

Philip Michaels is a Partner in the New York office of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, focusing on estate and tax planning. He provides advice on family succession, tax, and charitable planning matters to families, entrepreneurs, executives, and artists.

Since 2000 he has been an adjunct professor at New York Law School, teaching estate administration, business succession planning, and advanced wealth transfers.

Dr Sam Lowe

Sam Lowe is a Partner and Chief Financial Officer at Capula Investment Management LLP. Prior to joining Capula in 2006, Sam spent 12 years working for AT&T Labs Research.

He holds a BA in Mathematics from Grinnell College, and an MA in statistics, an MBA and PhD in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University.

Dr Yu Qiao

Yu Qiao is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Structural Engineering, the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He is also an Executive Committee member of UCSD’s Program of Materials Science and Engineering.

He earned a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, in addition to obtaining a MS degree in Materials Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences – Institute of Mechanics in Beijing, China, and a BS degree in Applied Mechanics at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, China.

Professor Qiao is active in teaching and research in a broad field. His research interests include thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, carbon-negative technologies, advanced energy materials and systems, and space construction.
